Technology Integration in Project Citizen Portfolios

Welcome to my web based electronic portfolio, which was used in conjunction with the integrative capstone project, as a

required part of my completion of the Master of Education (Instructional Technology) at the University of Maryland University

College Graduate School of Management and Technology within the class EDTC 670 Integrative Capstone Project, fall 2009.

As you view these pages you will observe the completion of a self-directed project, in which graduate students in the class

collaborated with their colleagues who teach grade levels Pre-K to 12 and a variety of content areas to support or solve a

current curriculum or learning problem in education.

Within the pages of this website you will learn of an educational problem and the use of Technology Integration Planning (TIP)

model as described in the textbook of the class, Integrating Educational Technology into Teaching, by Roblyer and Doering

(2010).  The TIP model consists of the following phases:

·         Phase 1:  Determine relative advantages

·         Phase 2:  Decide on objectives and assessments

·         Phase 3:  Design integration strategies

·         Phase 4:  Prepare the instructional environment

·         Phase 5:  Evaluate and revise integration strategies

The focus area of this Capstone Project is social studies and history related to the learning area of civics as supported by the

Center for Civic Education.  The text referenced is Project Citizen, Level 1 accompanied by Project Citizen, Level 2.

The problem addressed is the minimal time the social studies or history teachers have in the schedule to teach the standards and

curriculum.  This project integrated technology in the Project Citizen lesson to increase the quality of learning of the public

service component in the No Child Left Behind and Maryland State Curriculum.  This Capstone Project used technology in one

inner city class and compared results to a control group class not using technology.
