Work Experience
Experienced in education from pre-school to community college. Wrote, acquired, and implemented substance abuse, community improvement, extracurricular activity, and field trip grants. Experienced in teaching in multiple states and countries, with students of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Work cooperatively with multiple department heads. Six years experience in training teachers.
Center for Civic Education, 2002 – present.
· District Coordinator for Project Citizen for the First and Third Congressional Districts in Maryland.
· Over four years, facilitated five groups of students entering the Maryland Center for Civic Education Project Citizen showcases. Students won two first places, three second places, and one third place. The first place entries went on to the national competition and were judged “outstanding” and “superior.”
· Certified instructor for Violence Prevention for the Center for Civic Education.
· Lead teacher for the Archdiocese of Baltimore in the Violence Prevention Program.
· Mentored teachers through the Project Citizen Portfolio process all participated in the Maryland Showcase and one received a second place.
Teacher, Archdiocese of Baltimore, 2000 – 2008
· Taught fifth grade and middle school language arts, religion, social studies, literature, vocabulary, spelling, and mathematics.
· Established debate teams at two schools and the debate league for the Archdiocese urban schools.
· Established the Project Citizen program for three different schools in the Archdiocese. Initiated training for the teachers.
· Facilitated three years of school-wide poster and essay competitions sponsored by Catholic War Veterans.
· Created a classroom website.
Volunteer, Parent/Student Advocate, 1998 – 2000
· Provided parents with knowledge of their rights and appropriate contacts.
· Researched and suggested options that were appropriate for the students’ success.
· Tutored students on how to compensate for their disabilities.
· Accompanied parents and students to meetings when requested.
Harford Community College, 1996 – 2003
· Tutor, Communications Skills Center (1997-2003). Evaluated students’ English performance. Researched and provided individualized instruction and support material for remediation. Was personally requested and recommended by other instructors to tutor students who were otherwise unable to pass reading examinations.
· Adjunct Instructor, English Department and Transitional Studies Department (1997-2003). Instructed Reading and Understanding College Textbooks, Introduction to Writing, and Basic Writing. Instructed English composition and computer skills in a high technology room; taught students while they were working on individual desk computers. Member of faculty team evaluating the effectiveness of the Communications Skills Center; because of my input, the equipment in the center was measurably improved. Selected and served as a member of the college Faculty Development Committee; reviewed and improved the Adjunct Handbook, especially items related to information technology.
· Instructor, Successful Transitions Center (1996-1998). Conducted classroom instruction for a diverse group of adult students in preparation for their GED examinations. Evaluated students’ knowledge and determined appropriate placement. Researched and developed course materials for English, reading, mathematics, science, social studies, and word processing. Developed additional materials and conducted personal instruction as necessary to address individual needs.
Volunteer Member of Citizens’ Advisory Committee, Southampton Middle School (1995-1998). Provided input on budget actions and learning disabilities, and assisted the administration in keeping in touch with the community.
Substitute Teacher, Harford County Public Schools (1994-1998).
Chairperson, Dolphin Scholarship Foundation (1992-1994). Oversaw the fundraising efforts of a team of 20 people. Chaired the most successful chapter in the United States.

Teacher and Headmistress, Morning Stars Preschool, Stuttgart, Germany (1989-1990). Established the school in response to a community need. Developed and implemented the entire curriculum.
